If you have a pulse, I am sure you have heard of Wi-Fi. This is the wireless interface through which we can connect our computers, laptops, and mobile devices to the internet. But what on earth is Li-Fi?

The SJVCEO strives to build upon the successes of other programs that bring positive outcomes to vulnerable populations that are often left behind. How can we serve these communities with workforce resources? Are there any existing programs we can refer people in to? Is there a specific model that works best? This is where we want to highlight the Willdan Clean Energy Academy, a workforce development program based out of New York that is “empowering trainees to learn the skills necessary to uncover energy savings opportunities.”

Many of our public agency partners are just coming out of a full data debrief (see April’s highlights here) and are ready to get kickstarted with new projects to better improve their communities. Read more about your community below!

However, do not allow yourself to become desensitized to it but rather take a look at what is being done both in public sector leadership as well as private sector leadership to address this issue. We can use these as signals to think about what changes can be made on the smaller scale to support these efforts.

We have talked about innovation in battery backup and the energy efficiency and resiliency benefits to having battery backup to compliment your solar PV system. However, we have not fully discussed the limits of battery backup.

As SJVCEO’s workforce development efforts continue to progress forward, we decided that it was time to narrow the scope a bit. Since we cannot solve all the issues we have addressed over the last few months, we have separated our efforts into three main categories that we want to pursue. These three groups are not at all the only ones that need to be targeted for workforce development efforts, but we feel like these are most prevalent in our communities and what we as an organization can work towards progressing.

Unless you are living under a rock, I am sure you are aware of the California statewide initiative to electrify all buildings, including residential. I am sure you are also aware that one of the most common objections people have to electrifying their homes is they do not want to give up their natural gas cooktops.

Just last week our partners at Southern California Edison and Edison International announced the implementation of a new scholarship program, the Lineworker Scholarship, “to help increase diversity in skilled trade.”
