SJVCEO's Monthly Learning Bundle
Civil Eats in the San Joaquin Valley
The SJVCEO was awarded funding from the California Department of Food and Agriculture to execute the “Healthy Refrigeration Grant Program, administered by the state’s Office of Farm to Fork. The program, which offers grants to individual stores as well as organizations, is using corner stores and small markets to expand access to fresh foods for residents of communities experiencing food apartheid, a shortage of access to fresh, diverse foods affecting some 17.4 percent of Americans.”
The installation of upgraded efficient units in these communities not only solve the food desert issue and in some cases, will reduce energy usage and monthly utility bills for each store owner allowing them to allocate those funds to other resources to better serve their customers. The SJVCEO strives to find pragmatic solutions to problems that rural California communities face and the CDFA program was an ideal complement to build upon our services to Kings and Tulare counties. Smith from Civil Eats that addresses the success of the program and how the program will invest $20 million to bring fresh produce to low-access communities in 2022.

SoCalREN’s New Program: Streamlined Savings Pathway
The Streamlined Savings Pathway Program is here to help public agencies achieve long-term energy savings and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in support of local and statewide climate goals. With the Streamlined Savings Pathway, SoCalREN is making incentive processing quicker and easier, mitigating the cost of delay for public agencies. The Streamlined Savings Pathway offers fast-tracked incentive application review for a wide variety of electric energy efficiency measures. Because SoCalREN believes in expanding access to energy programs in communities that need more support to meet their climate and sustainability goals, the Streamlined Savings Pathway offers double the incentives for projects at facilities in underserved communities.
