SCE | Community Safety during Wildfire Season
As California continues to experience a year-round fire season, SCE wants to make sure communities are informed and prepared as they implement their Wildlife Mitigation Plan. To support residents, SCE hosted a variety of virtual events to provide communities with information about Public Safety Power Shutoff protocol, how to best prepare for emergencies, and receive an overview of SCE customer programs and services. See a few of the meetings below according to the community you live in!
What is SCE’s Wildfire Mitigation Plan?
1. Grid Hardening: Improving the electrical system to make the grid more resilient in high fire risk areas, improving reliability and reducing wildfire risk
2. Situational Awareness: Using a dense network of weather stations and wildfire cameras to monitor location specific, real-time conditions that help inform operational decision-making
3. High Fire Risk Inspections: Annually inspect equipment in high fire risk areas for any needed maintenance, repair or replacement, prioritizing the highest-risk structures
4. Vegetation Management: Annually inspect, trim and remove trees to prevent vegetation from coming into contact with electrical equipment and potentially sparking a fire safetrees@sce.com
5. Public Safety Power Shutoffs: Tool of last resort to protect our communities from the threat of wildfire, where we temporarily shut off power to prevent our electric system from becoming the source of an ignition
