WFH Learning Bundle 14: National Preparedness Month!

SJVCEO 2020 Learning Bundles
14th Edition
September 21st, 2020

And we are BACK with more WFH Learning Bundles! It is more important now than ever that we recognize September as “National Preparedness Month.” Wildfires, climate disasters, and a public health crisis make it clear that we need to emphasize the importance of preparation today.

Energy efficiency has a close connection to national preparedness month for a few reasons. Amid an emergency, we must rely heavily on energy for critical services that aid in the safety of our communities. Systems such as microgrids are a solution to deal with major power disruption in any emergency event where these critical services are desperately needed. “Microgrids are stacked with local renewables and staged for resilience, providing communities economic, environmental, and resilience benefits.” Want to learn more about community resiliency and how to be as prepared as possible? National Preparedness Month- Dept of Homeland Security
“Disasters don’t wait, make your plan TODAY”

During each week of September, we will narrow in on a specific topic of emergency planning. Check out the break down below!

Week 1: Make a Plan!
Talk to your friends and family about how you will communicate before, during, and after a disaster. Make sure to update your plan based on the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations due to the coronavirus.

Week 2: Build a Kit
Gather supplies that will last for several days after a disaster for everyone living in your home.  Don’t forget to consider the unique needs each person or pet may have in case you need to evacuate quickly. Update your kits and supplies based on recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Week 3: Prepare for Disasters
Limit the impacts that disasters have on you and your family.  Know the risk of disasters in your area and check your insurance coverage. Learn how to make your home resilient in the face of storms and other common hazards and act fast if you receive a local warning or alert.

Week 4: Teach About Preparedness!
Talk to your kids (and others) about preparing for emergencies and what to do in case you are separated. Reassure them by providing information about how they can get involved.
