June Spotify | Feeling extra NOSTALGIC

With our lives transitioning closer and closer to what seems to be “normal,” we can’t help but look back and reflect. Feeling Nostalgic? Because the SJVCEO is! Whether Nostalgia for you is a song that came out last week, last year, or 50 years ago, take a look at our choices below!

Courtney’s Picks:
My Town Buck-O-Nine
Beautiful Snoop Dogg ft. Pharrell Williams and Uncle Charlie Wilson
Wagon Wheel Darius Rucker
Sunflower- Spider-Man Into the Spider Verse Post Malone and Swae Lee

Sam’s Picks:
With a milestone birthday around the corner I cannot help but to be nostalgic and think of some of the best times in my life. Being a child of the 90’s I can’t help but to know EVERY word to Spice Girl songs and singing them at the top of my lungs. No Doubt and Outkast songs were those that I spent my summers memorizing all the words of while watching the MTV. Also, when I say MTV I mean 24-hours of music videos with total request live debuting the newest video of the week. Which of course you had to watch live as DVR’s were not a thing.

Just a Girl, No Doubt
So Fresh, So Clean, Outkast
Closing Time, Semisonic
Wannabe, Spice Girls

Kelsey’s Picks:
Nostalgia might be my favorite theme up to this point because it is different for everyone. It could be a memorable moment from 8 months ago or flashback to your childhood. Most of mine? The latter. I would just like to make a personally apology to my parents for blasting these songs (primarily the second one) on repeat on my massive boombox in the backyard, acting like I was an angsty teenager. To be very clear, I was not one. Enjoy!

Summer of ’69, Bryan Adams
Thnks fr th Mmrs Fall-Out Boy
Express Yourself, NWA
Come and Get Your Love Redbone

Rochelle’s Picks:
Okay, so, my age is definitely showing in my song selection this month.  I am a proud child of the 80’s and 90’s and throughout my formative years, hip hop music was incredibly popular, especially songs that called attention to political and social issues in our communities was extremely popular.  This music was coined “Political Hip Hop.”  So, when I am feeling “Nostalgic” this is the music that I often turn to.

The Beast, Fugees
Changes, Tupac Shakur
Can I Kick It? Tribe Called Quest
Mathematics, Mos Def
