WFH Learning Bundle 19: Microgrids!

January 2021
WFH Learning Bundle

Weeks into 2021 many of us remain diligently working from home--where we spent most of 2020. So, obviously we must continue our “Work from Home Learning Bundles” into the new year!

This month lets dig in on MICROGRIDS--how they can foster autonomy for public agencies, ensure reliability in emergencies, and help meet growing State climate goals. With Public Safety Power Shut Off (PSPS), the constant push for GHG emission reduction, and climate disasters becoming more frequent, microgrids allow public agencies to prioritize reliability, resiliency, and economics to better serve their communities.

PG&E Strengthening Community Resilience with Comprehensive Microgrid Solutions
California Public Utilities Commission approved Pacific Gas and Electric Company's (PG&E's) comprehensive and cost-effective microgrid proposals, which are designed to reduce the number of customers affected by Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events and mitigate the impacts to those who remain affected.

SoCal Gas Uses Natural Gas Fuel Cell Technology in Microgrids
Southern California Gas Co. has begun powering two of its Los Angeles-area facilities with Bloom Energy solid-oxide fuel cells, which the companies in a July 17 announcement said should reduce emissions, air pollutants and the cost of power in addition to providing reliable power without needing to rely on the grid. Learn more about how fuel cell technology is being utilized!

Southern California Regional Energy Network
Pathway to Zero was created to maximize energy efficiency opportunities while driving the integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). The program supports public agencies on a path towards zero net energy (ZNE), which means producing all the energy needed on-site. Click here to learn more and enroll!
