Inspiring Stories:
Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) staff and LA Kings staff, fans, and mascot Bailey held a donation event for LA Family Housing, to deliver hundreds of hygiene items for people transitioning out of homelessness. SoCalGas and the Sempra Energy Foundation also teamed up to donate $50,000 to LA Family Housing (LAFH). "SoCalGas recognizes the importance of supporting our communities and especially those struggling with, or on the verge of homelessness. People from every walk of life are in need of the basics – many people seeking assistance for the first time,"
“Together, the Sempra Energy family of companies – including SoCalGas' sister California utility San Diego Gas and Electric, and the Sempra Energy Foundation – are stepping up with more than $8 million to those in need during this crisis.” Read more here!
What our partners are doing
SoCalREN:
As summer approaches and we prepare for fire season, now is a great time to consider demand response, which can build community resilience by reducing stress on the grid during disasters or shifts in weather. SoCalREN offers free services through the Pathway to Zero Program to help you assess distributed energy resource opportunities, including demand response. Get started by registering at socalren.org/join to access the SoCalREN network toolkit, which includes training materials from their recent webinar, “Resiliency and Energy for Public Agencies."
In the meantime, join SoCalREN on 6/17 for “It’s a Virtual World: Remote Audit Services” to discuss what to expect when you schedule a remote audit at your agency’s facility. We’ll discuss facilities and equipment that may qualify for a virtual audit and how your staff can act as SoCalREN’s eyes and ears in the field.
3C-REN
The Tri-County Regional Energy Network (3C-REN) is a partnership between the Counties of Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. Together, 3C-REN programs take a holistic approach to delivering energy-efficient, resilient, and healthy buildings within the tri-county region. These efforts reduce energy use, strengthen local job markets and support climate goals.
On June 11th, 3C-REN will be hosting a webinar as part of their series “Navigating Shelter-at-Home Orders.” Attendees will learn about resources and strategies that support a resilient building industry, economy, and environment on the Central Coast. Click here to register!
SCE Announcements:
Southern California Edison Demand Response (“DR”) programs offer incentives for reducing your electricity use when the demand for electricity is high. During these periods, we may call a DR “event.” You’ll be asked or remotely signaled to reduce your energy usage. In return, you may receive bill credits, a reduced rate, or other forms of compensation! Click here to learn more about Demand Response.
Everyday expenses affect some households more than others. Fortunately, there are two programs that may lower your energy bills: California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) reduces energy bills for eligible customers by about 30%. Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) reduces electric bills for qualified households by 18%. Check out more info here: https://www.sce.com/apps/iqp
PG&E Resources:
PG&E's demand response programs are designed to enable customers to contribute to energy load reduction during times of peak demand. Most PG&E demand response programs also offer financial incentives for load reduction during times of peak demand. Need more information on PG&E’s Automated DR Program? Click here!
Relief for Energy Assistance through Community Help (REACH) provides income-qualified customers with financial assistance during times of hardship. Customers impacted by the COVID-19 will be provided with up to an additional $100 in bill payment assistance through March 4, 2021
SCG Updates:
Please see below for SCG’s most recent statement surrounding COVID-19 Updates (5/14/2020)
“We understand this is a challenging time for us all. Rest assured, your natural gas service will still be there for you. Under the Governor’s recent Executive Order, members of the critical infrastructure sector, including natural gas providers, are considered necessary to the security, economic security, public health and safety of California.
Safety is critically important to us, and we have taken numerous measures to protect our workforce and the public. These measures include social distancing, the use of face coverings when safe to do so, COVID-19 job site safety oversight monitors, enhanced personal hygiene practices, facility and vehicle cleanings, and quarantine protocols.”
