A Breakdown of SCG's Rebate Guide | Part 5

FOOD SERVICE PRODUCTS

Energy savings are critical considerations for food service equipment in commercial kitchens, given the high operational costs and environmental impact associated with energy consumption. Implementing energy-efficient technologies and practices can save significant costs.

  • Combination Ovens: These versatile units combine steam and convection heat to cook more efficiently. They can replace multiple pieces of equipment, saving energy and space.

  • High-Efficiency Fryers: Enhanced insulation reduces heat loss and improves energy retention. Heat recovery systems capture and reuse heat from exhaust gases to preheat the oil, reducing energy consumption. More efficient burners use less gas while maintaining high cooking performance.

  • Boilerless Steamers: Use less water and energy by eliminating the need for a separate boiler.

While having efficient equipment is important, you also need good operations and maintenance of it. Regularly clean and calibrate equipment to ensure it operates efficiently, and schedule maintenance due to wear and tear or component failures. As discussed in the prior guide, properly insulating hot water pipes and cooking equipment is important to reduce heat loss and improve energy retention.

Implementing these measures requires an initial investment, but SoCalGas incentives can help offset that expense. Additionally, educating staff and the public about the importance of energy conservation and the benefits of these measures can further promote their adoption and effectiveness.
