A Love Letter to Energy Efficiency
Dear Energy Efficiency,
We love you. For 15, 10, eight, and five years we have committed ourselves to you. And we don’t see an end in sight. You have been not just a foundation, but deeply rooted in all we do. So, on this Valentines Day, we felt it necessary to say it boldly, to all who will listen we love you!
You’ve been consistent, not just for us, but for those we serve. You make it easier to help people, businesses, and our local governments save money on their monthly costs.
And as we look ahead to the push for a more integrated approach—a look back and ahead to IDSM—we’re so glad we’re with you. You’re not flashy like solar and storage. You’re not just about the instant gratification of demand response. You don’t fluctuate like rates. You are a constant.
In your truest form you go unnoticed by most. You get all the same jobs done; you just require less energy to do it. You reduce pollution. You prolong system life. You save money. But too often you’re overlooked. You go unseen.
But not to us.
We know that you are the most cost-effective way to combat climate change. We know you make businesses more competitive. Homes healthier. Streets safer. We see you. And we love you.
We know that without you, there is nothing for DR, EV, or generation to integrate with. You are what makes this all possible.
Our love, today and always,
Courtney, Sam, Rochelle, and Kelsey

Love is love is love. Yes. But that doesn’t mean love is all the same. In energy efficiency we always say one size does not fit all, and that is also true in love. Like EE, love takes on different attributes depending on the inputs. At its best, love is simple. It instills confidence in the thing itself and gives space to grow. But the most beautiful thing is no one love is the same. Your love is what you decide it to be, and it doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. It doesn’t have to follow a prescribed path. It’s yours. And theirs. And love is deciding what that is.

What is that saying, ‘life imitates art’? Well, for the sake of this playlist life imitates energy efficiency. When we are in love we can face difficult situations, but in the end we can come together with our partner to figure it out. Being a team in life is what love is all about.

The month of love has arrived! I think that love has different meanings for each of us. For me, it is the center of any relationship. Whether that is with your parent, your partner, or your friends, love—a healthy love that is—makes life that much better. Kind of like energy efficiency, right?!

It is February, the month of love! During February I can’t help but think about all the different types of love that I experience in my life daily. The love I share with my husband, family, and friends is all different, but they share the same underlying themes. Above everything else, all those loves motivate me to pursue being the best possible person I can be! Is it so far-fetched to think about energy efficiency in the same way?
