January Spotify | I'm a Watt?
The SJVCEO is BACK for another year of curated song favorites and industry themes to match! To start of 2022, we want to bring the POWER back into the year. Watt signifies power?
Courtney’s Picks:
Power is a complicated idea. It’s personal for sure, and if power has its own meaning for each of us what is it really, other than an aspiration? Well, in physics terms, it’s the amount of energy transferred per unit time. If I think of it that way, putting my own energy out into the world for any amount of time or at any point in time, well… I hope it’s not crap. There’s a power in self-satisfaction, in not just knowing who you are, but being unapologetically who you are. Of course, there’s power in taking responsibility for your actions; for doing what’s right, even when it’s hard. And ultimately, there’s power in committing yourself to seeing something through. There’s power in believing, in positivity, in decency.
Feeling Good, Nina Simone
She’s a Rainbow, The Rolling Stones
The General, Dispatch
One, U2
Sam’s Picks:
When I think of power I think of those that have money and can control things. My songs choices don’t fall into line with that rather they tell a story about those finding power in themselves and not to let others control them.
Power is Power, The Weeknd
Money and the Power, Kid Ink
Your Power, Billie Elish
She Loves Control, Camila Cabello
Kelsey’s Picks:
This may be the most interesting curation of songs I have developed thus far, but here we are! These songs may not represent power on the surface, but the more I listen to each the more powerful I feel. All of these songs are also on my gym playlist, so I think that says something! And yes, I wanted an excuse to include a song off of Adele’s latest album… Enjoy!
Otis, Kanye West, Jay Z, and Otis Redding
Every Teardrop is a Waterfall, Coldplay
Feelin’ Myself, will.i.am, French Montana, Wiz Khalifa, Miley Cyrus, Mustard
Oh My God, Adele
Rochelle’s Picks:
In the first month of the year and after surviving not one, but two years in a pandemic I do powerful--like I can conquer anything! Those who can say the same should feel very powerful too. I’ve selected songs by artists who embodied power, all of them trailblazers who felt powerful enough to call for change. These songs are anthems for change and social justice. These songs are power.
Fight the Power, Public Enemy
Take the Power Back, Rage Against the Machine
Soul Power (feat. The Original J.B.s) [Complete Version/Mono], James Brown
The Power, Snap!
