Sam’s Picks:
With a milestone birthday around the corner, I cannot help but to be nostalgic and think of some of the best times in my life. Being a child of the 90’s I can’t help but know EVERY word to Spice Girl songs and singing them at the top of my lungs. No Doubt and Outkast songs were those that I spent my summers memorizing all the words of while watching the MTV. Also, when I say MTV I mean 24-hours of music videos with total request live debuting the newest video of the week. Which of course you had to watch live as DVR’s were not a thing.

Just a Girl, No Doubt
So Fresh, So Clean, Outkast
Closing Time, Semisonic
Wannabe, Spice Girls

Kelsey’s Picks:
Nostalgia might be my favorite theme up to this point because it is different for everyone. It could be a memorable moment from 8 months ago or flashback to your childhood. Most of mine? The latter. I would just like to make a personal apology to my parents for blasting these songs (primarily the two) on repeat on my massive boombox in the backyard, acting like I was an angsty teenager. To be very clear, I was not one. Enjoy!

Move Along, The All-American Rejects
Thnks fr th Mmrs,
Fall-Out Boy
Express Yourself, NWA
Come and Get Your Love, Redbone

Rochelle’s Picks:
Okay, so, my age is showing in my song selection this month.  I am a proud child of the 80’s and 90’s and throughout my formative years, hip hop music that called attention to political unrest and social issues in our communities of color was extremely popular.  This music was coined “Political Hip Hop.”  So, when I am feeling “Nostalgic” this is the music that I often turn to.
Coincidentally, at this very moment, our Nation is in a place where these issues are, once again, front and center.  The theme for this month’s playlist had been selected prior to the events surrounding and leading to the wrongful deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmad Aubrey.  However, I feel, that there is no time like the present to amplify the voices calling for justice and equality.

The Beast, Fugees
Changes, Tupac Shakur
Untitled, Nas
Mathematics, Mos Def
