SJVCEO is pondering a very important question...

What is your purpose?

Let’s be clear: there is a distinct difference between passion and purpose.  A passion drives you whereas purpose is what makes you dig your heels in. Not because you’re being stubborn, but because you have a righteous path ahead and you’re determined to follow it.

I’ve been thinking a lot about purpose lately; and Harry Potter. I’ll save my hunting Horcruxes analogy for another time, but just know, it’s what on my mind.

Is serving rural people my purpose?  Kind of. Is that Sam or Kelsey or Rochelle’s purpose?  I’m not certain, but what I can say is that deep motivator in each of us aligns with each other, and ultimately under the purpose of the Organization.

The SJVCEO was started to ‘improve the quality of life for people of the San Joaquin Valley through clean energy’. And while the geography has expanded and the subset of ‘clean energy’ has narrowed, the purpose to serve has always been the core of why and what we do.

As you can tell, purpose gives us a lot of drive here at the SJVCEO. So please give our March playlist a listen to see how we channel this theme into our daily tunes.

Courtney’s Picks:
Professionally, it would be far easier if I was driven by passion and not purpose.  My passions would yield more traditionally measured successes.  Purpose is tricky.  It roots you to something or someplace, and when you’re not serving it, it nags at you. It reminds you that there’s more and by ignoring it you’re not being true to who you are. This selection sums of how I feel deeply about the place I’m from, the people I work for, and that unrelenting need to keep going.
Also, for those paying attention, the answer to why all the black dresses in here too.

California Love, 2Pac
Man in Black, Johnny Cash
Pacing the Cage, Jimmy Buffet
Into the Unknown- Idina Menzel

Sam’s Picks:
All of my song choices have played a role in continuing on in many different situations for myself. Some may make you emotional while others just get your blood pumping to continue on.

Don’t Stop Believing, Journey
Lose Yourself, Eminem
Its My Life, Bon Jovi
Have It All, Jason Mraz

Kelsey’s Picks:
The theme for this month threw me for a loop. It was the first month that I had to think about my choices. Shockingly, 84 songs didn’t quickly populate in my brain (a true shock to us all). Purpose can be described as many things, but I think the following songs encompass it fairly well, from my perspective at least! Please try to not get these stuck in your head… enjoy

On My Own, Jaden Smith and Kid Cudi
FourFiveSeconds, Rihanna, Kanye West, and Paul McCartney
Every Teardrop is a Waterfall, Coldplay
How Far We’ve Come, Matchbox Twenty

Rochelle’s Picks:
“What exactly do you mean by ‘Purpose’?” Was the question I posed to my teammates when presented with this month’s theme. What was the response I received, you ask? “Whatever you think your purpose is and whatever you think it means to be you and what you stand for.” With those guiding words, I suddenly found it difficult to limit my song selection to just 4. However, these songs, in my mind, embody the very essence of feminine strength and cultural pride. I hope they inspire the same feelings of motivation for you as they do me.

Girl on Fire, Alicia Keys (feat. Nicki Minaj)
Respect, Aretha Franklin
Right to Dream (From the Movie “Tennessee”), Mariah Carey
Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat), Digable Planets

Disclaimer. There is NOTHING wrong with being sorted into Slytherin House, it just didn’t serve Harry’s greater purpose.
